Well, summer is nearly over and soon the temperature is going to start dropping. This mix is for those first nights of having the windows open after a long hot day. Upbeat and a little dirty (the moaning opening track from Pete 'Guitar' Lewis - the man who gave us "Hound Dog" - surely sets a mood) though it's also got it's fair share of foot-stomping, thunder-cracking religious vibes from folks like Sister Rosetta Tharpe and Missionary Marnie Sample. You'll also find yet another rendition of 'In the Pines', this time from Roy Gaines (who later, like Pete 'Guitar' Lewis, played with Big Mama Thornton), a howling dirge tribute to the Voodoo Queen Marie LaVeau from Papa Celestin & Co., and one of my favorite songs of all time: 'The Girl on Death Row' from Lee Hazlewood backed by Duane Eddy & His Orchestra.

Pour yourself a nice negroni and open the windows. The heat's breaking.
